Artist Statement:
For over 30 years I have been
photographing the beauty and
wonder of the world, beginning
when I was a fine art major at
the University of Delaware.
In 1995, while attending
Parsons School of Design
studying for a degree in
photography, I became
fascinated with the mysteries
of digital imaging. This
process facilitates results
that would be impossible in
the traditional darkroom and
has enabled me to push
boundaries in my work. By
blending my original
photographs I create a world
removed from the limits of
reality. Like dreams, this
art possesses a vividness and
connection to experience, but
yet it’s an illusion. The
allegorical imagery engages
the eyes, minds, and spirits
of the viewers and invites
them to develop their own
personal interpretation. To
realize an idea, I review my
archive of thousands of
photographs to decide which
images can be merged to make a
compelling statement.
Determining the placement of
images and which techniques to
employ to create the most
effective result,
intellectually as well as
visually, often involves many
days, weeks or even months.
The final image is printed
with pigmented inks on
archival matte paper,
watercolor paper or canvas.

can't decide if I find it
slightly disturbing or
inspirationally
life-affirming. The tree
standing tall against an
unusual but attractively lit
sky can certainly represent
vigor, perseverance, and
