Artist Statement for Leonardus Van Bruggen

"To create visual solutions that communicate feelings"

I have been a photographer for many years. The camera forces me to see the world in a different light. Originally shooting on black & white negative film (Adox, Panatomic X), I later added colour- and b/w transparency film to my arsenal (Kodachrome, Velvia, Scala). Recently I have become fascinated with digital imaging techniques on the Apple Mac. The basis for the latter, is my large collection of slides and negatives. Many established camera techniques like multiple exposure, blur, selective focussing, zoom etc. can now be achieved on a more advanced level in this "new" medium. I feel that the end result is that counts, not the method by which it was achieved.

I create images primarily for my own pleasure, none the less keeping in mind that a wider audience may enjoy my work. Being a jazz musician as well, perhaps gives me the urge to improvise, break technical photographic rules, experiment with composition etc. Mistakes quite often turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
Photography is an international language, like music and other art forms.

I love to express my creative talents.
