Artist Statement for Lian Zhen

My name is Zhenlian, I like to draw animals, I accept commissions for pet portraits.I am a Chinese artist, I have been art teacher for both Primary and Secondary schools in China, now I am retired , I devote all my time to painting and drawing, in fact painting is my favourite pastime, I enjoy the process of painting, and when something satisfactory comes out, I am very happy about it.
When I was young, I had spent more than 10 years in France where I have visited almost all the galleries, I had gained recognitions from several French Art Institutions, and I had held several art exhibitions in Paris and I had gained very good comments. But I had never entered any Art College in France, in fact I have gone my way through self-taught and much practices.
During the time I was in Paris, I had worked as portraitist at Montmartre for the tourists, I had drawn thousands of portraits for tourists, and this had given me chance to practise my drawing skills.
I like both oil paintings and Chinese paintings, I have no training at all in Chinese paintings, but recently I have started doing Chinese paintings, and I like it very much, I love the feeling of seeing ink and colour diffusing into the thin Chinese papers, and they can give results which are sometimes very stunning, Chinese painting is the integration of the real and the symbolic, which fits very well with my temper, in fact, all my paintings are not just simple reproduction of the real world, they are integrations of elements which reflect my inclinations for dream-like imageries, sometimes I like to cover my canvas with profusion of colours in their dream-like imageries. I am trying to arrange my paintings by thematic exhibitions, you can see some of my paintings by visiting : 1. www.yilianart.com 2.www.zhenart.com
