Artist Statement:
My latest efforts can be seen at the Farquharson-Mackenzie gallery in in Glasgow, Scotland and Dooley Gallery in Dublin, Ireland.
I was born and raised in the Glasgow, Scotland, and now make my home in Washignton D.C. I found my voice and vision through painting at an early age, and quickly gravitated toward the natural landscape for subject matter. Backpacking trips through India, school field trips to the coast and my own adventuring to the African deserts, have all given me a deep appreciation for the incredible variety of nature within the land around me.
There came a period in my life where art simply was no longer doing it for me. I found yoga and entered into a sexuall relationship with a cult leader in Egypt. I was more and more dissatisfied with my reality and tried suicide eight times.. I nearly stopped painting for a while. My vision resurfaced in a mental ward in Sweden and a series of dramatic vignettes unfolded before my eyes. My new paintings are abstractions of things seen and felt in nature. Birds hovering like demonic angels of death, the bloody sky, volcanoes erupting, islands buried beneath tidal waves, and forests ...
