Artist Statement for Linda Schneider

Every time I pick up a piece of my jewelry, it brings to mind once again the feeling I had of complete relaxation while walking the beach, hearing the rhythmic sound of the waves breaking, the solitude, and the anticipation of what I would find that day. Every time I look at sea glass (also known as seaglass or beach glass),I am amazed at nature’s incredible good taste in rectifying man's waste. With my treasures from the sea and nature, each piece is like a miniature work of art that I have been allowed to embellish to create something even more unique.
All my life I have been fascinated by different art media and have explored the creation of art through drawing, pottery, weaving, and jewelry design. At the present time, I am drawn to the whole process of creating one-of-a-kind wire wrapped sea glass or sea treasure jewelry.
I wire wrap each piece of sea glass and/or sea treasure from the sea as its own unique design. I love the anticipation I feel during the creative process, wondering how the finished piece is going to look, knowing that there will never be another piece of jewelry quite like it. I evaluate the shape, color, and size of each object, and then decide what wire and gauge of wire would best suite the wire wrapping process for that particular piece of sea glass or sea treasure in the formation of the most pleasing design. My choices for the wire wrapping consist of copper, sterling silver, brass, and gold-filled wire. Gold wire could be used if so requested. In addition, linje designs gladly accept commissions.
The foundation for my jewelry is handpicked sea glass (seaglass or beach glass) from the Chesapeake Bay; Miocene era fossils from Flag Pond, Maryland, and other treasures of nature my relatives, friends, and/or I have found. I prefer nature’s creations and I do not use tumbled glass that has been artificially made to look like sea glass.
Soon I will be releasing wire jewelry with sea glass found from the Puget Sound.
Again linje designs gladly accepts commissions!
