Artist Statement:
Me? An artist? Since I can barely draw stick people that look like people, I thought it could never happen. When I discovered that I have an amazing sense of color and texture, the door to becoming an artist began to open for me. Then I discovered bead weaving and the door flew open. In off-loom bead weaving I found the perfect medium for me to use my sense of color, texture, and movement to express my creative ability.
As I experimented with techniques to use in my sculptures, my necklaces began to take form. I love that with the necklaces I can wear my art and thus show it off. It is good for my artist's ego to hear all the compliments I receive when I wear one of my necklaces.
For all my work, I use tiny glass beads called seed beads and weave each bead individually. I weave my sculptures over a glass form. It takes a great deal of patience and attention to detail to complete a sculpture or necklace. Being a perfectionist, it isn't unusual for me to udo 20 or 30 hours of work to improve the way a piece looks. ...
