Artist Statement:
Doing Erotica for me started 3
years ago. I have embroidered
since I was 9 years old. For
many years I struggled with my
own sexuality. Growing up in a
very dysfunctional home I
fought to maintain even a
semblance of beauty in a world
that was a threat and hurtful
to me. To be able to add the
love and emotion with my
thread and needle that for so
many years was denied in real
life has done a great deal to
heal the pain of my younger
years. Today my life is much
different from the child that
once embroidered to escape.
Just as my life has expanded
so has my artwork. For me
human sexuality is something
to be treasured and honored.
To be able to express my
darkest desires in the light
and have the beauty that I see
and feel in my world today is
a powerful thing.
For many erotica is forbidden
and should be hidden, for me
it is important to show that
no matter how we as people
choose to express our
sexuality in private that it
may be something beautiful and
worth cherishing. That just as
speech is a freedom guaranteed
