Artist Statement:
My intent is to create a
unique world or landscape. A
place where the viewer can
enter and leave the hectic
busy world of every day life.
I like to get a quiet and
other worldly feeling to my
paintings. I’m inspired by
skies and sparse simplistic
imagery. I sometimes use
birds, barns, banners and
spheres as symbols in my work.
Layers and layers of
transparent and opaque paint
are built up to create rich,
textured surfaces. The content
of my work is based in
reality, but it ends up being
more of an imaginary world.

Lauren Litwa Holden studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia where she received numerous awards including the William Emlen Cresson traveling scholarship award for painting. She has had exhibitions at the Philadelphia Art Alliance, The Noyes Museum, The Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts, Widener University, West Chester University, Pennsylvania State Museum, Prince Street Gallery, The Churchill Gallery, Red Raven Gallery, Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill, Lebanon Valley College, The American Embassy in Brussels and Nexus Gallery. She is an alumni of the Center for Emerging Visual Artists in Philadelphia and has received a grant from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation in Canada and recently won first prize for painting at Art of the State in Harrisburg PA. She works out of her studio which is located in Wawa, PA.
