Artist Statement for Liz Neumann

How can I exemplify the words of the remarkable artist and teacher, Robert Henri, who wrote in his inspirational book, "The Art Spirit" , "Art is, after all, only a trace-like a footprint which shows that one has walked bravely and in great happiness."
I have shown bravery in my work, beginning with a great desire and accomplishing my goal. Oil painting was my first brave attempt at art on a canvas. It worked for a number of years until someone challenged me with acrylics. "Your won't be able to use acrylics," they said. My reply was, "Do you want to bet?" Another brave step for me. It worked like a charm. I fell in love with acrylic painting. The same challege was given to me about using the palette knife. They said I couldn't, but I did.
So, I present to you the results of my challenge-the traces of footsteps that I have created bravely and with great happiness. My hope is that you share in the happness these works have given me.
