Artist Statement:
The paintings in “Out My Window” focus on the beautiful mystery connected to memory. Memories are elusive and fuzzy. When brought into focus emotions latch on
and change the picture to make sweet memories even more so. Each vignette is a memory set within the landscape giving it a sense of place. I absorb my surroundings and mesh that with the past. Each painting feels like a daydream caught on canvas.
The drawings are the starting point for each painting. I collect meaningful drawings together and they start to tell a story. The setting of the landscape begins on the canvas and I insert the story. Sparks of recognition of a past place fuel the remembered details. As the place reveals itself the characters play their part. The delight is then to find deeper levels to the stories within the captured moment.
