Artist Statement for Liz Blair
Liz Blair is a self-taught artist from Athens, Ohio. She has been making and showing her art since December, 2003. Her paintings are usually brightly colored acrylics, often portraying flowers, but also some people and architecture. Growing up in rural Appalachian Ohio, Liz spent a lot of time exploring the woods and fields surrounding her home. Her life-long love of nature comes through in her paintings, as well as her support of local and national nature conservation groups. Liz usually paints from photos that she has taken herself, and accepts commission work from people who can provide a good photograph for her to work from. She also makes and sells crocheted wire bracelets and necklaces of her own original design.
Liz Blair is also a full-time business professor and a single mother to an 8-year-old son Christopher. Working as a semi-professional artist has allowed her to "practice what she preachs" in her marketing classes. Liz and her son enjoy traveling to sell at outdoor art fairs. Last year they participated in the Three Rivers Art Festival in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the Allentown Art Fair in Buffalo, New York. Liz is looking forward to attending those shows in the future, as well as others. Locally, her jewelry has been sold at the Dairy Barn Arts Center gallery shop, and her paintings have been selected for their juried show, featuring the best of regional artists.
