Artist Statement:
Liz Shewan
Born in Brazil, June 1969.
Liz is greatly inspired by
nature, colour and form. Her
work is full of enthusiasm,
laughter, love and strength -
much of her work being taken
from her travels in Africa,
Asia and Europe.
A contemporary painter, she
captures her subjects in a
world with an abstract slant.
She exposes her unseen world
into a visible format using
colour, texture and form as a
language tool to convey her
thoughts, emotions, feelings
and imaginations on to the
canvas.
What you can see here is her
'Soul Series' where she is
exploring life in great depth.
The circle of the souls
signifys eternity, the cycle
of life, infinity, wholeness.
As a paradox they also look
like sperm, the giver of life
as we know it. They hold a
unique richness about them
both in subject and an
extremely unusual and
effective use of texture and
colour.
With her sculpture she
expresses emotion, movement
and character through every
inch of the form, capturing it
by using her hands and tools
like a paintbrush on the clay.
