Artist Statement for Lincoln Maynard
|
|
|
Lincoln has spent most of his life amidst the neon of the Las Vegas Valley and the western deserts. This environment has molded a perspective that pulls the scale and spectrum of his surroundings into his current series of acrylic and mixed media abstracts. Architectural in scope, his work has evolved through ongoing explorations with various media and methods into a diverse catalogue.
With several decades spent in the theatrical industry working with the best in the trade, he continues to develop and build sets and effects for some of the most lavish and visual productions nationally and internationally. In the course of this work, he has built an appreciation for design on an oversized scale. Each painting is created on a custom poplar frame, which is individually built to size, then hand stretched and finished off with a gallery wrapped edge. This process is the first step in the artistic creation by the artist. Lincoln Maynard is known for his framing technique.
Breaking from his earlier work in photography, pencil, and pen and ink, his recent series of paintings are textural studies in line, form, and light. Taken as a series, or individually, each piece mirrors the whole or a focused part of the objects, atmospheres, architecture, people, and the life that surrounds him.
Lincoln’s work is collected in both private and corporate collections. His artwork is on exhibit in various venues throughout the country.
