Artist Statement:
“I wish to visualize in my own manner the insanity of daily life. That is not possible without adding my emotion and rationalization. That is a completely different view than in the past. In that period dreams and memories were the basis of my work.”
“The release of my past and my self-criticism has brought me to where I am now. They both force me to look for new areas, new techniques. A journey of discovery but not search for new ‘landscapes’. It is observing with a new look, without judgment of egoism, prejudice, violence, opinion about love, happiness and joy. This brings true freedom. You notice right away that people do not want to wake up, they prefer to cling to attachment.”

| Biggest Artistic Inspiration |
The injustice is one of Paulette’s most important sources of inspiration.
“An important step to new work makes me realise that is actually not pleasant to be free” observes Paulette. “To give up attachments, a habit is not pleasant, not simple. The insight into what we have made of our lives must grow. Especially observation must be learnt. Through all this I get a deeper insight into my own illusions and the illusionary character of the world. This creates space for consciousness through which I can change. It allows the many labels, which we laid on, to disappear.”
“For that matter I know that I’ am not alone. I recognize a similar striving in the works of Paul Gauguin, Gustav Klimt and Francisco Goya. They inspire me enormously. I study their paintings, I pick them out. Especially Paul Gauguin’s use of colour, the decorative style of Gustav Klimt and the dark canvasses of Francisco Goya. I want to know and to observe how they develop. This gives me the strength and courage to carry on, to keep searching...”

| Your Personal Biography |
Paulette Snijders-Bremen, born in Kerkrade (1946) studied in Maastricht at the main Academy of Art and the Jan van Eyck Academy. She completed her study with workshops and courses with the artist Frans de Haas in The Hague (etches), Indonesian batiks at the Academy in Delft and a study of philosophy at the Arcus College in Heerlen.
The work history of Paulette was just as turbulent as her existence. She worked in Germany, Spain, Algeria and at various places in the Netherlands. Her vision of life is the result of the protective Western culture, also under the influence of her four years in Spain and the struggle for life in the deserts of Algeria, as well as many journeys to exotic countries.
