Artist Statement for Lori Lazar

How can I put painting into words? There is great freedom to be discovered within a canvas. I'm always searching
for a new aesthetic in any painting and thus never know where it will end or when. I often paint several paintings
at once, sometimes diptiches or triptiches but never the same thing for too long. Perhaps when I run out of interesting
things to paint I'll paint the same thing over a few times perhaps but not yet. A lot of my work is inspired by
beauty of place and I have travelled quite a lot searching for inspiration for new work. Last year I travelled to
Europe for the first time and found plenty of inspiration. Painting Europe is meaning a lot of Burnt Sienna, theres
more to come .... ......two trips to Europe later I've done a lot
of photography and opened my own studio/gallery back in the
US named for my favorite greek isle Sifnos. Working on 9 works
presently based on my last trip, but I'm running out of places to
explore and will have to explore places found only on canvas.
I also did a series of plastic light sculptures for a little 4th of July
show. My art forms are expanding, anything could be next!
