Artist Statement:
Luiza Avellar was born in Brasil in 1970. At the age of 17 she entered for the first time in a black and white dark room and discovered the magic of the light: the photography became part of her life. The passion of the roses took her to create a series of photos inspired in the sacred and profane symbolism of this flower. To create her images she uses the needle and evokes the gestures of feminity and pain in her creations: Her sewing-photos were exposed individually and collectivelly in France, Italy, Finland, Belgique, Mexico, Colombia. She lived in Brazil, Germany and France, where she accomplished the art history Master dedicated to the roses in the medieval art. Currently , she lives and work in Florence, Italy....
