Artist Statement:
I have chosen to depict a view of a landscape set in the distant future. Within this landscape, the artworks present images of imagined vessels or containers as they appear to have been left behind on an earth devoid of human life, symbolic of majestic technological devices existing on into a future without their designers. Although the media and mark making were extremely diverse, the central focus in the works from the series is on the imaginary objects which float above the earth's atmosphere.
In the works, I have combined aerial photography and computer generated models to create a specific illusion. The optical effect produced by placing the vanishing points far below that of the eyelevel of the viewer suggests that the artwork on view is a portal from a satellite. My assistance is required to help suspend belief and engage the viewer into a world without gravity.
It was important to me that the object appear to be in an orbit in a place where gravity could cradle this immensely heavy object to make it appear as light as a cloud. This idea formalizes an ironic visual pun. The gravity of the idea of the extinction of humankind, ...
