| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I think we are born as artists and if we are fortunate we find our voice early in life and fulfill our inner drive to express what we see, feel and live. Some of us take a detour on our journey to find our artistic path and it takes us longer to express ourselves. "An artist will eventually find their voice, it is inevitable". |

| Your Personal Biography |
Born in Nice France, Lydia Richez-Bowman came to America in 1954. She currently lives in Bismarck North Dakota after a recent move from Southern California., where she resided with her family for over 25 years.
Her French heritage is an important part of her personality and a strong influence to her creativity. Matisse, George Rouault, Belgium artist Jephan De Villiers, and the beautiful stained glass windows in European churches, all of these are inspirations for her work. Their influence, reflected in her use of rich vivid colors, bold design, a unique style and references to nature. She is an abstract artist able to create powerful and yet peaceful spiritual experiences in her multi-level work. The use of metal and metallic materials is a direct reference to her past jewelry experience as a designer and producer of original works in silver and copper as well as cloisonné enameling. She is an award-winning artist with many works accepted into innumerable juried and invitational exhibitions, as well as many independent showings. Assortments of her paintings are in private collections here and abroad.
Ms. Richez-Bowman continues to discover and refine her technique and style and since her move to Bismarck, N D just over a year ago she found a new voice both artistically and as an ‘art activist’. She created and developed Uptown…Downtown, a once a month event to stimulate activity in Bismarck’s Historic Downtown. This included the merchants staying open late one night, local artists displaying their work in vacant storefront windows and musicians. Ms. Richez-Bowman is also on the Editorial Board of the Prairie Independent, a progressive newspaper here in Bismarck. She writes the City Life column, Art, Music and Culture in the City’s Center, she is also a new board member on the Dakota West Arts Council.
Her life here is exciting and she is exploring many new options with excitement and vigor. Ms. Richez-Bowman believes that “Bismarck is budding culturally and with continued energy and proper direction from all of us involved in the arts with a vision… Bismarck can become a strong, artistically integrated and diverse cultural center!”
