The mind of a woman caught between what is....
and what would be.
The Discovery.
Through music, sounds cape, set, costume and lightscape ”Madwoman” evokes the chaotic terrain of one woman's mind - the unbridled passion (“Anymore”, “Do It”), the escape (“Chant 3000”, “Elephant Song”), the cautionary tale (“Careful”, “Fear Of Falling”), a reality upended (“Snowing In April”) - In the world where she thrives, the script has been flipped …. Chaos is Order, Night is Day, and Insanity is Sanctuary.
Madwoman is an expression of art which explores the splintered mind of a woman who is faced with the dichotomy of contemporary living versus the laws of nature within herself.
It investigates current trends of thought and governance, established value systems and practices and their resulting chaos (in most instances) toward humanity, and thusly its effect throughout the scope of all that exists. It seeks to address issues of conflict and chaos in our current critical mass mindset toward the inherent differences in human existence by evaluating existence in the one single individual. The Madwoman. The woman who is black but white. The embodiment of the polar. The symbol of the conflict and the union.
Madwoman depicts a mental state of flux induced by the condition of distinct difference of being in a world which does not allow difference. A mind discovering the demand by this world for unwitting subordination of itself and sense, to the practices and decrees of external so called “authoritative” influences. The result: a questioning of that which would rather ignore difference and for all intents and purposes, denounce, demean, and inevitably eradicate it, in an attempt toward “sameness” as a reflection of the adherence to “the whole, or Holy . . .pure or perfect. . .Godly. . . righteousness. . . One”.
Ultimately it is the contemplation of the implication of difference in being that introduces her to a myriad of different views which display themselves to her in the perceived form of a shattered questioning mind (the songs of a Madwoman) . The ultimate validity of oneself by being-alone becomes the conclusion of her journey as she comes to discover the core truths of existence. Discovering that her humanity is merely a part of, yet contains the expression and substance of the whole, and is whole by mere being, as all existence is.
It is her unique method of consideration which eventually effects this conclusion.
These instances of questions and proven answers are experienced simultaneously in the light of an increasingly cruel common reality, as well as in the greater light of a world of fantasy which she creates mentally in order to confront the tumultuous issues she faces. This form of escape into the refuge of enchantment provides a secure platform for meditation on the issues at hand. A sanctuary, in which is found a sense of comfort, clarity, and grace; replacing the harsh unyielding exterior of the seeming asylum in which the “Madwoman” lives. Her abstract portrays a clear and present reality.
With this presentation, a dialogue can be initiated concerning the illusory, actual, natural, logical and spiritual seat of human sovereignty as well as ultimate validity in all being.
