Artist Statement:
A portrait reflects not only the soul of a human being. It’s the face of a society and it represents a cultural and an historical moment. When I paint a portrait of a person, the whole human species is there.
In that instant, in the middle of the creation of a portrait, I work mainly in the eyes. The eyes that I paint are those what the poet describes very clearly:
“The eye you see is an eye / not because you see it; / it’s an eye because it sees you”
(Proverbs and Songs I, Antonio Machado)
I look eyes alive in my paintings, eyes that can call you, eyes that follow you and see you deeply when you walk around.
When I paint, when I draw, when I create art, I’m always looking under the surface to share my discoveries with you.
I was born in in a little port of the Mexican Pacific. That place meant a very big influence in my life: I think that the contact with that nature - admiring the rich colors and the various shapes- make me wish to paint and to become an artist.
