Artist Statement for Mary Jean Mailloux

Seeing with an artist's eye haphazard moments of fleeting beauty, and then creating some aspects of these in a two dimensional form, provides for me its own priceless rewards. While facial expressions, the body in motion for work or play or a bit of colour on a dreary surface may all capture my imagination, it is without a doubt the human story which appeals most to me. So, even when I'm painting flowers or a still life, I will always look for the magical part of it. The part which relates to me in a personal way for it is the only way I can tell you how I feel. I do not paint according to any style. Though I have many years of experience, I try to approach my work through fresh eyes. I focus more on what will tell my point of view the best, rather than any specific technique. Ever since I was a young girl I was attracted to shape and colour, the impulse to draw and paint was very strong in me. During my school years and in my professional work life I have always managed to pursue my passion for art.
