Artist Statement:
Studying Shamanism and mythology has deepened my understanding of life and what is sacred to many cultures around the world. Shaman interpret dreams by analyzing the symbolic messages they are given. My compositions are based on these symbolic messages.
My techniques had their roots in traditional watercolor painting and evolved into mixed media. I paint with pastels and acrylic paint laying on thick bright contrasting colors sealing each layer with varnish. Black marking pens define the shapes. Beads enhance the shapes. My goal is to create as much varying textural design as possible.
Major influences on my art are the clear colors and black outlining of Tiffany’s stain glass.
