Artist Statement for Marah Brown Rohovit
|
|
|
Marah...A Kansan,A Flatlander.
Marah's intent for the viewer is to give attention to the contrasts and multi layered complexities of community by combining the elements of drawing and painting on one surface, Layering one over the other.
Ripped and torn canvas applied with some three dimension created by elevating surface elements. Canvas projecting off of the main two dimensional surface, penetrating with positive form the negative space surrounding the canvas. Elements of bright primary colors contrasted with earth tones. Black and white graphics combined with gestural strokes to further emphasize the contrasting elements in community.
Edges soft, torn, ragged, hard, important, encompassing.
Chaos, rhythms static, flowing.....
Community.
Artist Statement part 2
The Artist
The room is dark
The painting glows
The artist stares
Silence
The artist leaps
from the chair to the canvas
floating on streams of color
filled with free emotions.
Unlimited impulses surging through her
electrifying her existence.
Phosphorescent foods filling hungry voids.
Noiseless sounds exploding into chaotic rhythms,
allowing her to dance freely
in the soul of her own creation,
and frolic in the joy
of herself having been created
