Artist Statement:
Art as expression. On the level of writing. Poetry, prose or stream of consciousness ramble. Visual art used to express things words do not comfortably cover. Visual art used before words are even formulated. Purer...I think. More encompassing of general truth...I believe. Words, I am familiar with, as we all are. Words, as explanation, are capable of expressing the already known. They may be capable of expressing the unknown, but the words themselves bind that unknown, enigmatic thing. This leaves out levels of understanding, levels of being. Art, on the other hand, forces you to attempt to reach a more complete understanding. Beyond words and their accepted meaning. Beyond the known. Art should lead to the very questions...What, Why, How, When. What about this interests me? Why does this seem to be art? How am I supposed to react? When [insert anything here]?
The questions and questioning. The beginning of consciousness. The essential thing that both befuddles and defines humanity. The aesthetic brings about pondering pause.
