Artist Statement:
I like to capture an essence of the person I'm drawing and painting. Physical traits are important but an air or mood or character conveyed with paint, color, texture, dark and light, pattern and shape all help convey a whole portrait of someone's intangible qualities.

| Biggest Artistic Inspiration |
My biggest inspiration is parts of all of art history. Formally, I look at the grace simplicity and power of the caves paintings of hunters from Paleolithic times.
The long wild brushstrokes of Franz Hals portraits, the subject of relationship and love between Mother and child of Impressionist Mary Cassat, Pierre Bonnards willingness to treat each painting as a learning experience, the painters who chose to break out of tradtion and create something new with their visual language.
I am a painter's painter concerned with the world of the painting, not so much with social issues or creating fiction. I like to put on what's there with accuracy, beauty, design, flair and a feeling of freedom. |

| Your Personal Biography |
I have an ongoing love with art throughout my life, sometimes interrupted by career or life...but always there in my being. Resting, active, accumulating and expressing. I am at a current creative period in my life and choose to explore people and who they are and may have been through a portrait study.
I began drawing as many kids at 3 years old and kept with it and found that my Mother encouraged my activities. I loved art in high school and went on to study it in college and then transferred to an art school to focus more on it. I have found what interests me most and that is someone's face.
To come to know someone by studying their expressions and posture and in a sitting, the things we pick up on a non-verbal way fascinate me. I love charcoal, paint, the way it moves, and the way I feel before and after painting and drawing. I am an artist.
