Artist Statement:
I have been working with geometric imagery in my ceramic pieces since the mid 1990s. The interaction of the ceramic forms, whether in pedestal or wall format, is as important as the surface texture, color and patterning.
Most of my designs are based on patterns of simple geometrical forms. I appreciate and enjoy the expressive quality of basic shapes and like to utilize the contrast of surfaces.
The influences seen in my work come from life experience as well as travels and readings. I find inspiration in everything around me from elevator buttons, manhole covers, to the terra cotta architectural fragments of the Boston Back Bay.
My recent work includes a wall relief sculpture titled “Mountain” based on my favorite artist, Victor Vasarely. In my “Illusion Series” I have introduced into my work images ofcontemporary op-art within the context of historical shapes and surface designs.
My objective is to elevate these images of popular culture to the high end decorative arts and my mission is to find all of the small, seemingly chaotic elements around me and to create a harmonious environment out of them. ...
