Artist Statement for Maria Angelo

Maria was born in Portugal, October of 1950.
Maria Angelo initiated her artistic life as an autodidacta, and later on attended the school of arts in Lisbon, at the "Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes", where she is a member. This is a very prestige school, and it's 100 years old. She as recently taken Arts History.
She had her first private exhibition in 1995, and since then, integrated in several exhibitions, group and solo. She is represented in several private and public collections.
From February - April of 2003, Maria had her first private exhibition outside Portugal (Canada),with 35 of her artworks.
In the same year, some of her artworks were published on a CD of a musical band called "Kaddisfly". The cd's title is "Did You Know People Can Fly?" It was released in 2003.
She has been offered to exhibit in France, Paris, at the "Galerie Jardin" by the director by Pablo Garcia, in 2003. In May of this year, (2005) Maria travelled to Romanea, where she took part of an International exhibition in the city of Arad. (Arad Biennale 2005). The Arad Biennale 2005 was a success.
The International Biennale of Contemporary Art in Arad, Romania and the Ponte delle Arti Association are currently working in the planning and creation of a Museum of Contemporary Art in the city of Arad. Maria, as well as other attending artists, was asked to have the artworks permanently exhibited in the Arad museum. The contract has been signed. The artworks which will be permanently exhibited in the museum are "Grito I", "Grito II", and "Grito III".
One of Maria's art work was also chosen to exhibit in Argentina by Oscar Polioto. Oscar Polioto "Fund. M.I.A.D.-Venado Tuerto 2006" in Santa Fe, ARGENTINA.
Another recent accomplishment was the INTERNATIONAL FINE ARTS CONTEST 2005, Composer Antonio Gualda. I'm happy and proud to say that Maria was one of the finalists. As a result of this contest, Maria received a certificate and her work will be exhibited in galleries in Granada, Spain. her work was one of 57 works selected out of 305 works entered.
She is also a member of "Silence Speaks International Artist Association".
Her paintings are based on her feelings and life experience and it is designated in the following poem:
