Artist Statement
Reflexion on my photographic work by Mariojosé Angeles
Photography is to painting what painting is to photography. Without wanting or analysing it, photography has become close to painting, to its concepts, codes and conclusions which were arrived at in the cognitive memory of our evolution.
The photographic experiment in which we have been involved for the past decade has met with its origin. Our pupil is open and receptive to the signals which are seized by our mental archive in which are already defined our concept of beauty, the shades of colours, contrasts and intense light that irradiate shapes and objects.
“The umbrella” which is omnipresent as a symbol, travels, observes, contemplates and moves around various scenarios in its search for eternity. Pure and simple forms are attracted by the retine which uses as means of expression an objective and a shutter.
The background, the composition of objects in a bidimensional space, the change in perspective and/or the depth of scope constitute a contrast with the objective, subject of our photographic work.
The dome or parabolic form, the radial balance of an object-instrument which serves as a roof, a coat-hanger or a weapon.
A magic world and a surrealistic language attract us and involve us in the modernity and contemporary nature of images collected in the depth of a dark camera which are later on transformed and manipulated by computer technology.
My work is the result of a profound search of my own self, it’s the meeting of the soul, with the superior I and with the child that we all have within us. The images of a sublime world are channelled and are transformed later on into icons full of expression, strength, light and colour.
The freedom and spontaneity in my work are the reflection of my ideological view of life in an ever-changing world.
Man is the main axis of life and as such, through our work, we endeavour to protect the values, symbols and means which will enable human life to continue.
