Artist Statement for Mark Andrew Allen
|

|
Allen's powerful mixed media paintings have been shown throughout the world and are in many notable collections. His works are a combination of popular imagery with abstract painting combined to expose alternate meanings through contextual preconceptions.
Recording his daily life experiences through painting, using materials that surround him, he has developed into his own visual vocabulary of seeing the world. Allen's newest series gives a nod to Picasso and the cubist painters while also acknowledging the Pop movement of the Sixties with Andy Warhol and Robert Rauschenberg (Mark has met both Bob and Andy.) One evening in Venice, California, Rauschenberg was asked what ONE thing represents how an artist should create art, and he said... "Everything You See Is Important. " A profound yet simple way to approach art. That same approach is seen here with Allen's new work.
