Artist Statement for Mark Stine

Important Note: messages left for me here do not get to me in a timely fashion, so please email me from my web site only, located at http://www.tdstainedglass.com .

I have been making stained glass artworks since I was 11 years old. That's 37 years! In that time, I have striven to develop techniques that are both quick and precise. My success is reflected in the awards that I have received for my art, and in the admiration of my peers, both locally and on the Internet. I hope that the artworks shown here and on my web site (http://www.tdstainedglass.com) will expand your concept of the many possibilities for stained and beveled glass. Several texts on my web site can also serve to educate you concerning what good stained glass craftsmanship should look like and how you can become a savvy consumer of stained or beveled glass.

It is unfortunate that the popularity of stained glass in the last 30 years has resulted in far too many hobbyists turning professional before they have mastered the craft. Worse still is that many of them choose to teach stained glass to others in order to supplement their lack of commission-work. This has resulted in a large number of glass artists whose craftsmanship is poor and whose designs are unoriginal. While it is not my wish to denigrate anyone, this sad state of affairs has lowered the reputation of this vibrant medium as a whole, negatively affecting all glass artists. This has convinced me to risk censure by speaking out. It is my hope that the information disseminated on my web site will rekindle the drive for superlative craftsmanship and original design in this truly wonderful medium.

Although my stained glass studio is located in Denver, Colorado, I have completed commissions all across the continental United States. Through the Internet, my work has also been purchased and successfully delivered as far away from my studio as Dublin, Ireland. At present, I will seriously consider all commissions worldwide.

If you are at all interested in purchasing stained glass or beveled glass for your home, office, place of worship, or other commercial environment, there are two pages on my web site you should read. One is the Craftsmanship Page and the other is the Commission Process Page, both of which can be accessed from my home page. Regardless of whether you will commission me or some other glass artist, these two pages will give you the information you'll need to obtain the best value for the amount you will invest.

I hope that you enjoy my art as much as I do, and will take time to visit my site. Many other artworks that are "for sale" are shown on my web site, as well as numerous commissions that I have completed. Please feel free to contact me with comments or questions.
