Artist Statement:
Most of my work is in
acrylics. I enjoy the
versatility of the medium. I
do not try to represent a
particular place. I try to
create my impression of the
environment. I use color as
much as shape to imply my
images.I live in Northern
California, surrounded by the
Redwoods and the Wild Smith
River. Between the river, the
mountains and the near by
Pacific Ocean, I will never
cease to find new material.

Marne was born in Wichita, Kansas but moved with her family to the San Francisco Bay Area at an early age.
She studied art at both the University of California, Berkeley and the California College of the Arts, Oakland. The artists who influenced her most were James McCray and David Park. Later the painter, printmaker, George Miyasaki was a strong influence. She was deeply involved in the Bay Area’s Abstract Expressionist movement in the late 50’s and early 60’s.
Marne won her first award at the California State
Fair. She has since won awards in regional, national and Inter-national competitions.
She is a member of Coast Redwoods Art Association, Pelican Bay Art Association and the International Society of Acrylic Painters.
