Artist Statement:
MARY HAGY
One of the regions most collected artists; her first print release in 1981 (edition of 2,000) was a 3 month sellout. Mary Hagy has spent a lifetime among the rural landscapes she so vividly brings to life. Her bucolic scenes are considered by her patrons to be among the most enduring of art. She works exclusively in oils, and executes her paintings guided by the highest standards of excellence. She is self-taught and was first inspired and studied the work of British landscape painter John Constable. She later discovered and was influenced by the great masters of the Hudson River School. She is widely recognized for her luminous landscapes often featuring water, which demonstrates an almost photographic reflective quality of realism. Collectors are captivated by her love of detail, outstanding impasto treatment and supreme technical skills with some paintings taking months to complete. Her innate understanding of light, atmosphere and space has lead to the creation of a classic, timeless body of work.

The Greenhouse Gallery is currently showing the Salon International 2007. A juried exhibition featuring more than 200 oil paintings from numerous artists coming from all over the United States and 13 foreign countries. The juried paintings are then judged and awarded by a renowned name in the art field. This is one of the projects of the International Museum of Contemporary Masters of Fine Art which is dedicated to seeking and promoting artistic excellence worldwide.

Kentucky landscape artist Mary Hagy has been juried into the T.A.L.’s 42nd Annual show. Her winterscape painting titled “The Colors of Winter” was chosen by nationally renowned watercolorist Miles Batt. His credentials include over 170major awards and he is a teacher and author.
Ms. Hagy was born in 1950 has been painting in oils for 30 years. She is a member of the Oil Painters of America, Southern Arts Federation, Landscape Artists International, numerous regional organizations and is a charter member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. She is a popular speaker for various clubs and supports many charities through the donations of her art.
The Exhibition, one of the premier jury art exhibitions in the South, will be hosted at the Tennessee Art League’s new home at 808 Broadway in downtown Nashville. The exhibition opens Thursday, June 1. Gallery hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. FREE
“The Central South Art Exhibition is one of the most prestigious art exhibitions in the region,” said Jan Batts, chair of this year’s event. “The competition is to artist in eleven states. We had more than 400 entries and sixty-seven pieces have been selected for the show.” A reception honoring the participating artists will be held on Sunday, June 11, at 2:00 pm; the Awards Ceremony will begin at 3:00 pm.
The Tennessee Art League, founded in 1954, is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the arts and assists visual artists by providing gallery space, workshops and education programs. TAL’s many programs include its partnership with Nashville Metro Schools to teach art to at-risk students through the “After-School Art Club.” More than 300 artists are members of TAL.
