Artist Statement for Matthew Lake
|
|
|
Matthew John Lake was born in Perth, Western Australia. Travelling extensively in the 1990's, throughout Europe and the United Kingdom, he now resides permanently in Cairns, Queensland.
He studied Graphic Design in the 1980's and graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in 1994.
Lake has been involved in 11 exhibitions since graduating with three of these being SOLD OUT solo shows. He is represented in collections throughout Australia, Europe the United Kingdom and America.
Lake's work is extensively sought after. His use of bold colour and a variety of techniques expresses his exploration of and passion for, any subject matter.
Lake projects his strong Australian background through his visual language in the representation of his surroundings, using his strong drawing ability and an extraordinary use of colour.
Lake has just returned from participating in the 2006 International Art Fair in Guangzhou, China. He was one of 13 Australian Artists invited to exhibit in this prestigious event.400 artists from China and around the world were also present.
