Artist Statement for Matteo Zacchino

I was born in Italy in 1980 where my parents and family raised me in a comfortable and always safe enviroment. Since i was a child "a world apart" always lived in my drawings and doodles; giving me some markers and a F/4 book of paper was to me a fantastic and unlimited place to play. As i grew up to be a teenager my understanding of expression was repressed by the most common human behaviours when confined in similar circumstances. SanRemo is a town with a population of a little under 60.000 people where everyone knows eachother and often rumors and gossips are the peak of one's normal day. After learning how to be smart enough to let it get to me my need for expressivity exploded. Large, legal and illegal murals were the only way of making "my world" a reality. It helped me wait for the bus, ride in the train that took me to school and it also made it a lot easier for me to earn the respect from the other teenagers and crowds. So i just painted, i often got caught in the process. Judged as a vandal for it i was handed back to my pour father who couldn't punish me too hard knowing my weakness towards expression. Later on with the help of the art schools all really started to make sense... Math was awful, history and literature were easy to pay attention to but the creative classes just made me feel better all the time. I loved creativity, i knew my purpose in life was not yet defined but i knew that whatever it was going tobe it had to be trough a creative process.

Then all the sadden we moved to the USA where my father opened several successful restaurants and... I am still painting. Confined to more conventional medias and subjects but i am still painting!! So here i am posting my latest pieces of art on absolutearts.com
