STATEMENT
My undergraduate degree is in architecture. Because of that training, I have always been interested in commissions that would allow me to integrate large scale sculpture with architectural space, be it freestanding or suspended. The goal of the artist that sites his or her work in a place accessible to the public should be threefold; 1) to provide an artwork that is imaginative and original; 2) to provide an artwork that is sympathetic to the requirements and influences of the site (be it environmental, architectural or sociological), and 3) to provide an artwork that has both integrity and wonder --- an artistic expression that will be true to the artist’s vision, while stimulating the imagination and intellect of the viewer. My work is generally non-narrative. It is generally concerned with formalist issues such as form, space, proportion and materials. Other considerations are implied motion, balance , intersection and penetration of elements, and final finish. My probable direction would be non-narrative, dealing with the basics of sculpture. Scale and materials would be important. The final result would be dynamic rather than static and probably more complex than the work that I show in my slides. My work is abstract . The viewers bring their own meaning to the experience.
