Melanie has had an interest in
the arts since she was young.
After finishing school she did
a foundation in art and design
at the West Surrey College of
Art and Design in Farnham,
England. Following this she
worked for a year as a graphic
designer whilst attending part
time design courses at the
London College of Printing.
Melanie then went on to gain a
degree in Multimedia Design at
the Southampton Institute.
On a trip to Venice Melanie
was inspired by their rich
tradition of blown glass. When
she moved to Canada she
learned the art of glass
fusing while working at a
studio in Whistler. Melanie
designs and produces glass
jewelry and dishes,
experimenting with different
colours and techniques.
Her fused glass jewelry has
clean, simple designs, the
addition of wire wrapping adds
dimension to many of the
pieces. Her work is always
developing as she learns more
about the glass fusing
process.
Melanie has her glass work in
several stores in Whistler and
a store in Golden, she has
some prospects for displays in
both England and Canada. ...
