Artist Statement for Melissa Smith
|
|
|
Melissa Smith is a self-taught artist who specializes in landscapes. Raised in the beautiful countryside of Upstate New York, Melissa enjoyed drawing and painting early on and nurtured an ever-growing interest in the arts. Since moving to Texas in 2002, she has focused increasingly on creating paintings exploring the beauty of nature with an emphasis on the seasons she misses at home.
"My paintings are the materialization of my passion; searching for those small windows in life in which to escape to."
Serene soothing colors and almost fortuitous brush strokes often combined with bold textural elements achieved with palette knife, reveal a longing to be in the painting, in this amazing place and in the moment; a tranquil state of mind.
