Artist Statement for Michelle Farrell
|
|
|
Michelle has been sculpting in bronze since 1987. In her figurative work she explores and plays with the inner lines and energies of the human form and spirit. Inner intentions and states of mind are described within the body language of her figurative sculpture.
In recent works she has sought to bring "lightness", vibrancy and delicacy to the bronze - a medium traditionally associated with "weight" and substance. Her pieces bring the bronze "alive" with a touch of feminity and sometimes humour.
Michelle has also completed several public and private monumental commissions to sculpt life-size horses.
Her sculptures have been exhibited in New Zealand and Australia, and are regularly shown by a number of established fine art galleries in New Zealand. Her works are held in private collections in both these countries, as well as the USA, Europe, Greece, Asia and wider Pacific.
