Artist Statement:
Over the years I have worked with fiber arts including needlepoint (abstracts) and embroidery (florals), photography (portraits and landscapes) including the digital image, Asian-influenced basketry, sculpture, painting and collage in my studies with Joseph Driess, Nancy Moore Bess, Carole Garmon, Joseph DiBella and others. During the past four years I have been working to combine my love for the visual arts with my enjoyment of teaching children. Last year I earned a Master of Education degree and became licensed to teach PreK through 12 Art in Virginia. I am currently teaching kindergarten, first and second grade students, and talented and gifted third, fourth and fifth grade students. Exploration of new materials and techniques for elementary school art lessons occupy my efforts lately, along with painting murals in private homes and fiber arts projects. My 15 year old son has also had an influence on my work in the past year. He introduced me to the amazing sculptural properties of Silly Putty. It is necessary to photograph these pieces as soon as they are at a completed stage as they tend to de-form in minutes unless kept in a freezer.
