Artist Statement for Michael Mahla

"...typographie und architektur
sind die beherrschenden erscheinungen
menschlicher schöpfung."

With the manifest of the movable characters Michael Mahla wrote, ahead of his time, about the integration of movement into the viewing of writing. A visual utopie, in which the dynamic of typography portraits an optical sensation, which may appear today trivial. He foresaw the end of the development of Roman characters disappearing from the Monitor and invented the word "Typokinetic" With full conscience the "kinetic typography" wants to rebuke the Computer in the field of a flatworld, where the writing moves in the sense of the word, in the sense of a statement where a new age starts...." and as a hommage to Johannes Gutenberg: Who moves the writing, moves the world"
