Artist Statement:
I am not a typical
contemporary artist. I do not
deal with one subject or one
genre or one way of handling
paint. My body of work is as
diverse as the influences that
spurred the creation of the
individual paintings and
drawings. Academic study and
the nature of assignments and
requirements has contributed
to the variety of issues I
deal with in my paintings, but
it is not the sole reason. If
I focus on a single idea in my
paintings it is life, mine in
particular, my influences, my
emotions, my aspirations, my
interests, my ideas.
Egotistic or self centered you
may respond. Maybe, but I
believe my art is my greatest
resource for communicating
with humanity. My personality
may be gruff or less than
friendly, my words may fall
short in elegance, or not
communicate what I am really
thinking. But when I paint, I
reach out, I connect. I bare
my mind and soul on the canvas
and ask the viewers of my work
“Do you know what I mean? Do
you understand what I am
saying? Do you experience the
same things?”
