| Your Personal Biography |
Michael Genovese b. 1976, Chicago
Emerging from Chicago's inner-city, Michael's journey is colored by the vibrant diversity of culture and self discovery. For the past 10 years Genovese has navigated his way through life, being trained in a scope of professional careers, arriving at the destination of art making. He incorporates various skills and materials learned from his visual progress, communicating a socially conscious agenda. Michael builds bridges with his work, producing subject matter that speaks to the contemplation of art and industry, difference between cultures, and the value of process.
Genovese's work is auto-didactic in nature, as it is left open for change in medium and subject matter, though disciplined through the relationship he has with particular processes and materials. Hand engraved aluminum pieces, the pairing of appropriated objects, hand lettering, pyrography and collaborative art making are to name a few of Michael's diverse palette of approaches when making art. He also lends his hand to public art, specialty sign painting, graphic arts and digital photography.
