Artist Statement:
I'm the middle child of three
boys born in Hartlepool. My
father was a Sgt major in the
British army. I spent my youth
moving to places like
Thailand, Hong Kong and
Germany. I'm uncertain whether
I consider my childhood as
constructive or detrimental.
On one hand I have developed a
distinctive perspective of the
world, I mean how many working
class council boys have their
own driver in Bang Kok by the
time they're twelve? On the
reverse of the coin I find
myself incapable to bond with
people or sustain long-lasting
relationships outside my
family. I remember thinking
when I was younger that the
approach my father used to
bring us up was virtually
brutal. As I grow older and a
little wiser I recognise that
everything that he did has
left an eternal influence upon
me and drives my ambition to
be the finest that I can be. I
see so much of him and my
mother in my conduct and
behaviour. I am perpetually
grateful for everything that
they have instilled in me.
