Artist Statement:
A painting is by its very nature a window, and I like the feeling of looking through, glimpsing for that briefest moment the image, the essence of the thing; trying to paint the memories, not of some specific place but that universal longing.
Whether watercolors of local coastal forms or acrylic paintings of medieval alleyways done from recent trips to Italy, my work is rooted in the abstract compositional possibilities found in nature. I’m not interested in literally describing the physical landscape per se, but in finding its’ essence. It is a constant search to find the universal within the specific....
