Cameron Mikovich is leading
painter among a new generation
of artists creating a Neo Pop
movement.
Like Roy Lichtenstien and Andy
Warhol during the 1960's,
Mikovich works with images and
techniques culled from popular
culture and the commercial
arts. Yet, his work expresses
the unique sensibilities and
sensuality of our own times.
Mikovich transposes and
transforms pop celebrities and
images, sometimes
superimposing sensuous
portraits on playful,
patterned backgrounds,
sometimes enlarging then
recomposing images using
abstract shapes that make them
up.
Mikovich's hand-painted works
portray the newly recongnised
gods and demons that populate
our world of mass culture, and
a new aesthetic--one that
combines formalism and realism
in the forging of a Neo Pop
style. |
