Artist Statement for Michael Lynne

During the summer of 2008 I have started a campaign to gradually begin to use a palette knife, or a large sponge brush, that is disposable in an effort to develop a looser, more fluid use of the paint. This is especially important during the underpainting phase of the work. The second part of this approach is to develop more of an eye for shapes within the image instead of subject as a compositional focus.

None of this is new to the art world but I guess it is somewhat new to me. If you want to see someone who has already "arrived" and has this approach mastered check out the work of Charles Sovek. Awesome.

Anyway, as an artist I must admit that many of my new works have attracted some interest on my web site and all, to some degree, are my first attempts at losing some of the detail. I have a ways to go!
I hope you enjoy some of my work and keep coming back- you can see how I am progressing over time as I move forward.
