My art work is a result of a strong impact of the North Western American culture on my Eastern European memories. My inspiration is rooted in my childhood, when I spent lots of time with my grand parents in a small village in Transylvania, Romania. Growing up, I learned to love the country's old artistic sites. I discovered fascinating rituals consisting of simple pattern repetitions. Surprisingly, these rituals create a world that is placed somewhere out of the temporal dimension. All of these left indelible impressions in my soul.
For me the process of painting is of utmost significance. My work is abstract in nature and contains close ups of traditional patterns used in folk art. Through repetition of these elements I create textural, abstract effects that convey the rhythmic play of colour energies. Vibrant colours signify the vitality of the traditional rituals and ultimately portray the vivid, passionate pulse of life. I use folk patterns in my art because they represent concepts like infinity, harmony and simplicity, thus revealing a balanced yet dynamic day to day life. Some pieces feel symbolic and celebratory of the joy of life while others invite the viewer to meditate and surrender to my work in order to experience it fully. I believe art viewing is an intuitive process that allows the viewer to be self directed, rather than being totally guided by the art work.
My goal in art is to keep alive the disappearing beauty and the secrets of a traditional, simple life by weaving old, cultural elements into contemporary abstractions. Through its abstract simplicity, my art renders the secret of life: a continuous metamorphosis of the old and new, local and global, microcosmic and macrocosmic universe
