Dustin Boulet
I have created art in some way throughout my entire life. I have used art since I
was a child as a means to relate and react to the world around me. Art was an ideal outlet
for me as means to a release from my good and bad experiences in life. As I got older, I
began to fine tune what artistic ablilites I already had. Painting stood out to me more than
any other medium. The paint took to me and from then on painting defined who I was.
Honestly, if I didn’t have art I wouldn’t know who this person would be. Whenever I
walk outside and see the world around me my eyes and memory act like a camera. I watch
people walking and interacting with each other and it’s almost as if a snapshot goes off in
my mind. These images hold steadfast in my head and I relate them to my brush. While
painting, I try to remember the feeling I got from these people as I watched them. If they
seemed sad, or happy, or frustrated, confused, content, alone, or whatever emotion they
may be projecting. In every painting there definitely is a piece of my life coming through.
Sometimes my life is the main subject and other times it is hidden in the composition and
color. The colors I use are very bold and usually overpower each other when used
together but I have found a way to use them in harmony. Hot pink with deep blues,
Muddy orange with turquoise, or rich purples with bright reds. Colors combinations such
as these are used in every single painting I create. Oil and acrylic paints are my
medium of choice. Each provide their own characteristics in different paintings. For me
oil is more spiritual while acrylic is more mental and visual. I strive to make strong
powerful works every time I create. Each piece given my full attention and I feel that it
shows in my work. I hope my art speaks to the viewer as much as it speaks to me.
