Artist Statement:
I find people's faces to be
fascinating. I don't know
why, I just always have. Thus
my love for art has always
taken me in that direction.
For many years, I painted
people's faces.
About 9 yrs ago I took a
sculpture class which opened
up a new world of ways to
represent faces. Oh the joys
of three vs two dimensions!
My goal when starting a new
piece is nothing more than
creating something that will
engage the viewer. Causing
her to want to stand an look
into the sculpture's eyes.
Depending on my mood at the
time, a piece may turn out
peaceful and contemplative or
stern and fatigued.
Every now and then, a piece I
am doing looks back at me with
what seems to me to be love
and admiration. At those
times I wonder if my muse has
cleverly directed my hand to
reveal her face.
In the end, it doesn't matter
what I think when I create
something, only what the
viewer things and feels as
they observe it....
