Artist Statement for Moran Brown

Anne Moran and Robert Brown have been creating metal sculptures together since 1998.

Our focus is contemporary abstract, geometric wall sculpture. We are concerned with rhythm, color, texture and line all working together to create an object of tranquil, sometimes dynamic beauty.

Our work evolves quickly due to our support of each others ideas and continual influence. We rely heavily one another’s problem solving abilities and have come to trust and value the others viewpoint as much as our own.

The sculptures are made primarily of copper. We use a torch for cutting, brazing and coloring. A variety of hand tools from hammers to tile cutting wheels are used for shaping and sculpting the copper.

Anne studied art at Carnegie-Mellon University and San Francisco Art Institute receiving her BFA in 1990. Robert received an art degree from Cochise College in 1993. Each worked as an Artist’s assistant, Anne a coppersmith, Robert a bronze sculptor, for several years before becoming full time Artists.

Anne and Robert live in Southern Arizona with their two daughters. Their work is displayed in private and corporate collections worldwide.
